For the player that likes healing and jumping around, HEAL THE BOSS is a 2D side-view single-player action game. The player plays as a healer in dungeons and, instead of killing the boss like in other dungeon games, needs to heal the suiciding bosses and keep them alive under a time limit.
This project was for Game Design 1 class at NYU Game Center. The presentation was created in one week. The document was finished in the later three weeks.
As a 2D side-view single-player action game, HEAL THE BOSS is about jumping, dodging and protecting the boss. One of the most important actions to protect the boss is healing. Others include shielding the boss, tanking damage for the boss, etc. Player can change the equipment of their skills in between games. There are no other games with exact same mechanics, but the boss fight in No Time To Explain can be used as reference for a 2D side-view single-player action game.
You are a healer in a team. However, your teammates are too powerful that they don’t need your healing in any boss fight. They don’t want to share their equipment and experience with you (since you don’t do anything), so they abandon you in a small village. You start your life here, planting wheats and petting birds. At the same time, while your ex-team enters a dungeon, they find out every boss is dead. They are confused, if they can’t be the ones who kill the boss, they can’t experience. So they start to wait for the boss to respawn. 10 hours later, the boss is respawned, then the boss commits suicide. They are shocked. They start to think about the solution. A few days later, they come back to the village to ask for your help to keep the bosses from killing themselves. You decide to start your journey again. However, this time you are entering the dungeon by yourself. This is the begin of the game. At the end of the main story, right after you save the boss, your team comes into the dungeon to fight the boss. It’s up to you to help your teammates or help the boss. Do you help your teammates defeat the boss and win rewards with them again? Or do you help the bosses defeat your teammates for payback? It’s up to you as the player. Both your decisions will become a perfect happy ending.
Pattle is a mobile strategy game. You can pick 3 different characters to fight against various bosses or other players.
The game was inspired by Final Fantasy 14 and MOBA games, with boss fight, competitive mode, character in 4 different classes and the dynamics between characters. My only teammate Corey Bertelsen was working on music and sound effects.
